The challenge
What needed solving
A jewellery bill is not an ordinary bill: every piece is priced from its weight, purity, the day's rate per gram and a making charge, with old gold, advances and GST adjusted on top. Many stores still work this out on a calculator, keep gold loans (girvi) in a notebook and track customer credit in a diary.
The store wanted bills that are right every time, a clear list of pledges that are due or overdue, and one view of who owes what — without heavy accounting software or a dedicated computer operator.
The solution
What we built
Billing by weight and purity
Each line carries weight, purity, rate per gram and making charge per gram; old-gold exchange, advances and discounts are applied before the balance.
GST invoices on demand
GST can be switched on per bill with the CGST/SGST split shown on the invoice; invoices print on A4 or go to the customer as a PDF on WhatsApp.
Girvi (gold loan) register
Every pledge records the item, weight, purity, amount, interest rate and due date; overdue pledges stand out and releases are recorded with a receipt.
Udhaar ledger
Unpaid balances from bills become credit records with payment history, so part-payments are never lost.
Stock by piece or by weight
Standard items are tracked by count and weight; bulk silver is tracked by weight alone and reduced as it sells.
Owner and staff access
Staff bill at the counter; only the owner can change settings, create accounts and reset staff passwords.
Books for the CA, in Tally
The jeweller asked for this one: a two-click export of ledgers and vouchers that the CA imports into TallyPrime, plus Excel GST and girvi registers.
Compliance fixes in v2
GST on the full value with the discount applied before tax, HUID on invoice lines, girvi interest recorded at release, and a hardened password-reset flow.
The outcome
What changed
- Bills, girvi records and customer balances in one system at the counter.
- Invoices can be printed on A4 or shared on WhatsApp as a PDF in one tap.
- The system became Infovion JMS, now configurable for any jewellery store.
